Hilaria & Alec Baldwin host an evening for The Dacor Modernist Collection Launch of Premium Kitchen Appliances @DacorKitchen @SamsungUS @837NYC #SamsungDinner

Late last year Samsung acquired Dacor, a premium home appliance designer. A complete collection of luxury kitchen appliances that bring focus to the kitchen as a centerpiece for entertaining and connecting with family and friends.

The Modernist Collection was launched on March 15th in NYC at Samsung 837. Hosted by Hilaria & Alec Baldwin, who are huge fans of the brand. With 3 kids under the age of 4, much of their time is spent in the kitchen, so a kitchen that is outfitted to be functional, stylish and interactive is of utmost importance to the family. Samsung CEO BK Yoon explained how technology and innovation are key to lead the way in the premium home appliance design market. Guests were treated to cocktails and dinner while they got the chance to interact up close and personal with the appliances.

Wisewear: Fashion meets Tech according to Iris Apfel @Wisewear

Wisewear was conceived out of the reality that the population is getting older, but is also more fashionable and tech savvy than previous generations. The company collaborated with 94 year fashion icon, designer and innovator Iris Apfel to design the Socialite collection, comprised of three uniquely designed smart bracelets that are equally functional and fashionable.

The primary features of these trackers are the norm and include text, email, calls, footsteps, and calorie counts, but what sets these bracelets apart is the distress signal feature that sends out a signal to ones contacts in case of a fall or other safety emergency.

Originally designed for an older consumer because of the distress feature and a higher price point ($295-$345) it has been discovered that younger women also had a need and a desire to own a trendy fashionable accessory that can go with any outfit and provide them with a piece of mind knowing help is easily accessible if they should need it. Now available for purchase at Saks Fifth Ave and other retailers abroad. #Sponsored

Mike’s Harder Lemonade X Lalo Yunda Collaboration @lalotattoos #HouseofMonkey @Harder

I have wanted to get a tattoo for years and even though my son is a tattoo aficionado with multiple tattoos, I was still reluctant. However, When I was recently invited to attend a pop up shop at The House of Monkey, owned by tattoo artist extraordinaire Lalo Yunda and his lovely wife, I decided to take the plunge. Lalo Yunda hails from Columbia and began his career with a homemade tattoo machine while developing a style of tattooing mixing fantasy and reality with difficult techniques and intricate colorful designs.

To celebrate The launch of Mike’s Harder Tennessee Barrel Lemonade, Harder collaborated with Lalo Yunda to create one of a kind tattoo designs on the Limited Edition Collectible Cans. Lalo, who appeared on Season 2 of Spike TV’s “Ink Master” is a self taught artist whose signature style is described as “magical realism”, which includes mythical elements combined with true to life images. The HARDER inspired tattoos feature designs such as a Skull, Snake, Dragon Horse, Bird, Jellyfish, and Coo-Coo Girl.

Yunda believes “Tattooing is one of the biggest art revolutions in history, and over the course of the next few years, collecting tattoos will of the same caliber as collecting fine artwork”.

Weekend Getaway: Menla, a Catskills Spirituality and Health Resort @Menla

This past August we were invited to a Hiking R & R in the glorious Catskill Mountains, specifically to a mountain retreat known as Menla, A Retreat- Resort and a Spa. Only a 2 hour hour drive north of New York City, but a million miles away, when it comes to the peace and relaxation the retreat offers for mind and body.

Menla is owned and operated by Tibet House, located in New York City. The goal of both centers is to teach Tibetan culture, practices, and healing methods to the western world.

Nena Thurman is the director of the retreat and is also the Mahasukha Spa designer, where Tibetan treatments and massage are the focus and the staff is expertly trained in administering them. The Spiritual Leader of Menla is Robert Thurman, an acclaimed author, Columbia University Professor, proclaimed authority on Tibetan Buddism, being the first American ordained as a Tibetan monk in 1964. Nena and Robert also happen to be parents to actress Uma Thurman.

Throughout the year Menla offers several packages and getaways. The Hiking R & R and Yoga are quite popular,as are the retreats that include workshops with Robert Thurman and special guests. As a bonus, the weekend we were there, Mark Epstein M.D. and Robert Thurman held a retreat dealing with Anxiety, Depression and Addiction: Buddhist Psychological Insights for Mental and Spiritual Health in the modern world.

The weekend itinerary includes workshops with lectures by both Robert and Mark, along with meditation sessions, and Q & A’s drew an inspired group, many whom are loyal to both men’s work in their respective fields ,and some making the trek just to hear them speak. The Yoga (Art of Iyenger Asana) retreat was happening simultaneously headed by Carolyn Christie.

Set on 325 green lush acres surrounded by Mountains the retreat is a healing center, a spa, a resort and a meeting center for small like- minded groups and organizations. Menla also welcomes individuals and couples looking for a weekend getaway  (2 night minimum), and includes gourmet vegetarian cuisine throughout the stay with the option to book spa treatments, guided hikes, and a multitude of healing treatments without having to partake in group classes. High- Speed Free Wifi is included throughout the retreat as phone reception is limited. It is highly encouraged to disconnect for a few days to fully experience the healing benefits of Menla.

NYC Fox & Jane Salon Review: Upper West Side @FoxandJane

The Fox & Jane salon originated on the Lower East side in 2011 and has since grown to four New York City locations with a fifth outpost in San Diego. Co-owner and founder Lorean Cairnes explained the theory behind the salon and how she felt there was a niche that needed to be filled. Lorean explained that traditionally in this business high -end salons, a la Madison Avenue, are typically formal and can be conceived as cold where she wanted to create a fun, friendly, and a family environment without sacrificing professionalism, technique, and always being on trend.

Lorean is very creative and when discussing my hair listened to my goals and fears and came up with a solution I would be happy with. With lots of color and highlights in my hair she opted to go darker at the root instead of lighter and added Balayage throughout instead of the typical foils to control exactly where she wanted the color to be. As a long hair person and being fearful of having my hair chopped off she trimmed my hair and added soft layers to give my hair much needed body. My hair is much healthier and more manageable as a result. The products used in the salon are formulated without harsh chemicals and are made for color treated hair.

The Fox & Jane salon is located at 104 west 83rd street. To schedule an appointment or to learn more about other locations visit

Paula’s Choice 20th Anniversary Breakfast @PaulasChoice

20150617 102223

20150617 094427

A few weeks ago we were lucky enough to be invited to a breakfast to celebrate Skincare guru’s Paula’s Choice 20 years in the business.

We were treated to a delicious breakfast at The Standard Hotel, in the Meatpacking district ,while listening to Paula speak about her favorite products and why she has been able to succeed in this very competitive and sometimes saturated skincare market.

Her favorite products include RESIST Vitamin C Treatment for brown spots ($55), The Broad – Spectrum SPF 43 Sunscreen Spray ($25), Clinical K Treatment Cloths ($32), and The SUN 365 Self Tanning Concentrate ($18)

One of her newest and best selling products now is the Resist Hyaluronic Acid Booster ($45). It works well on all skin types and visibly plumps skin with an infusion of a good dose of hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronic to diminish the appearance of wrinkles.

For people with acne prone skin or a problem with blackheads Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BPA Liquid ($26) contains 2 percent salicylic acid (BHA) and has a pH that allows it to unclog pores and keep breakouts and blackheads from happening. It is fragrance free so if you if have sensitive skin or allergies it has proven to improve skin’s tone and texture.

Paula’s belief that quality effective skincare should be attainable and affordable is a major key to her success and longevity in the beauty business.

We were sent home with a bag full of goodies to try for ourselves including a bottle of Veuve Clicquot to celebrate the occasion.
