Co- Founder and Creative Director Lorean Cairns opened this flagship location in 2011 and since then has expanded to 3 locations in NYC, Brooklyn, and San Diego. Not an easy feat in the hair business, especially in NYC where salons are a dime a dozen. Jackie Marie, a lovely and professional colorist & stylist in the LES location created a plan for hair that had included a single process to match my roots and go a little darker, more to my natural hair color, then she balayaged warm/dark blonde tones throughout my hair for an updated, even look.  My hair feels healthy and shiny. Last week The Indie Beauty Expo returned to NYC’s Metropolitan Pavillion for the second year and it was a dream come true for lovers of skincare, makeup, fragrance, and more… Over 130 Indie Beauty Brands from all over the world gathered to showcase their newest, best selling, and future product ideas. To name a few ,and there were many many more were Skinvolve, Au Naturale Cosmetics, Hydrohair, Phace BioActive, LiftLab, All Caps, (Shower, Sleep Spa), Goldfaden MD, Lyeska, NuVsio, Volante Skincare and Unwash.

Open only to trade professionals and press on the second day, brands had the ability to connect and make relationships directly with buyers, retailers, beauty bloggers, and editors. 

Day one, also known as Shop Indie, was a sold out event for over 900 consumers. Vendors offered big discounts and the open bar was sponsored by Boston Beer’s latest beverage, Truly Spiked & Sparkling. Crowns by Christy provided stunning flower crowns, Chic Studios provided a braid and lip bar, Amika had hair touch-ups, Beauty RX by Dr. Schultz offered quick mini face peels while DJ Alexis Krauss of The Sleigh Bells spun tunes for the crowd.

Plastic Surgery isn’t for everyone, but no one likes wrinkles! Beauty: Nuance by Salma Hayek Makeup Collection Relaunch @SalmaHayek @CVS

 

Salma Hayek originally partnered with CVS in 2011 to launch a Body, Skincare, and Makeup line. However, last month Salma revamped her entire collection and changed up the formulas to be more botanical and includes ingredients found in ancient beauty secrets by women all over the world.

A big believer in science and chemistry Salma is very involved in the formulations of her collection and is quite a perfectionist when it comes to rolling out a line of products. Being on the red carpet for a large portion of her life she has experienced every product and has learned what works on certain skin types and what doesn’t.

Every product in the makeup collection is under $20 but maintains quality ingredients and pigments. The Flawless finish liquid foundation ($14) is creamy and light and is easy to apply and I found the shades to be easily blendable. The Naturally Luminous Concealer ($12) is light and doesn’t cake up when applied under the eyes and the shades complement the shades of the foundation.

Beauty Review: DERMAFLASH Facial Exfoliating Device @Dermaflash

As a beauty and lifestyle writer I am always intrigued at how many new products are introduced that promise new technology and great results so I was very excited to try this new at home facial exfoliator.

The concept behind DERMAFLASH is inspired by Dermaplanning, an in office procedure where the aesthetician uses a sharp blade or scalpel together with light feathery strokes to remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz to achieve healthier and younger looking skin. I decided to try this product because Dermaplanning or shaving the top layer, has been a technique used for ages, even though many women would not admit to shaving their face.

Last week Salvatore Ferragamo held an unforgettable party during fashion week to celebrate the sequel to the original Signorina that debuted in 2012 and this time are calling the eau de parfum Misteriosa.

Signorina Misteriosa was developed by perfumers Sophie Labbé and Nicolas Beaulieu. The notes include blackberry, neroli, orange blossom, tuberose, patchouli and black vanilla mousse.

NYC Fox & Jane Salon Review: Upper West Side @FoxandJane

The Fox & Jane salon originated on the Lower East side in 2011 and has since grown to four New York City locations with a fifth outpost in San Diego. Co-owner and founder Lorean Cairnes explained the theory behind the salon and how she felt there was a niche that needed to be filled. Lorean explained that traditionally in this business high -end salons, a la Madison Avenue, are typically formal and can be conceived as cold where she wanted to create a fun, friendly, and a family environment without sacrificing professionalism, technique, and always being on trend.

Lorean is very creative and when discussing my hair listened to my goals and fears and came up with a solution I would be happy with. With lots of color and highlights in my hair she opted to go darker at the root instead of lighter and added Balayage throughout instead of the typical foils to control exactly where she wanted the color to be. As a long hair person and being fearful of having my hair chopped off she trimmed my hair and added soft layers to give my hair much needed body. My hair is much healthier and more manageable as a result. The products used in the salon are formulated without harsh chemicals and are made for color treated hair.
